YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

One of the main aims of MBRWA is to improve the position in the lives of our Burmese youth who are the latest day migrants from Burma to settle in the UK and making Britain their new home.

However, this group faces enormous difficulties in terms of linguistics and cultural changes, and therefore need a substantial a mount of support to adjust or to fit into the new environment.  Support in many important areas such as pursuing further education, employment and entitlements, vocational training opportunities, healthcare, housing, social care, recreational activities, arts, sports and other areas.

In order to achieve its aims, MBRWA-Youth project will be working to facilitate these supports for our Burmese youth. The following are some of the planned activities under this project.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

This program aims to assist the Burmese youths into the active UK work force.

The services we intend to offer under this program, which includes:

·         Guidance in preparing job applications, C.V's and interviews

·         Assessment on qualifications and experience

·         Training in English and IT skills

·         Assisting in Job search, and advising on employment rights and entitlements

·         Advice on Education and  Vocational Training opportunities

·         One to one mentoring program

DROP-IN Sessions

Why not come along to our open drop-in sessions get further information or to speak to our Youth Development worker, who will be able to assist you in your search for development in your career. If you can't come to the office, you can always ring and speak to our Youth Worker to discuss your query or to seek advice. No appointment needed, and you will be seen on a first come, first served basis.

All matters will be dealt with in strict confidentiality, and there is no fee for the advice and assistance provided.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

To stay in touch and remember their cultural roots and heritage, this program intends to bring together the old and young Burmese generation by organizing social events and outreach activities. Sessions where older generation Burmese provide mentoring to the youth and pass on advice and inside knowledge. Moreover, additional recreational activities have been planned for youths to engage and interact with different cultures and communities.

The services we would like to offer under this program include:

·         Sports/Leisure Activities
