                 MBRWA’s  Development Work in Burma

Further to MBRWA’s timely response to the Cyclone ‘Nargis’ crisis in Burma when it was able to donate foodstuffs and other essential items to those affected by the disaster and, contribute  towards the invaluable work of the local Burmese doctors’ health sessions in the affected areas,  MBRWA was able to complete its commitment of assisting three children’s charities in Burma, supporting disabled children, children affected by HIV & AIDS and very poor and orphaned children with funds to help meet their needs.

MBRWA is also working closely with a local NGO which organises self-help relief efforts in the cyclone affected areas. MBRWA not only provided funds to this grass-roots organisation but MBRWA’s representative, whilst visiting Burma, participated together with them in crucial meetings and discussions held in Yangon on Natural Resource Management, Networking and other important subjects.

MBRWA is also providing advice and consultancy, on a voluntary basis, to local NGOs in several areas of development, including fundraising, project planning and management, etc.

MBRWA added joy and cheer to the lives of disabled youngsters, including those affected by the traumatic cyclone disaster, by sponsorship contributions to help them celebrate the International Day of Disabled People and for Christmas festivities.

MBRWA’s financial assistance was also directed towards providing security and protection from abductions for a group of children orphaned by the cyclone disaster and who are now being sheltered by Nuns.

MBRWA has received joint project proposals to work on the different phases of the relief efforts in the cyclone affected areas of Burma, in health, disability, livelihood and vocational training programmes.

We are pleased to also be working with Disability and Health organisations in Yangon for the improvement in the lives of children with Disabilities and affected by HIV/Aids.
